Clarksville, TN – Quinton Cross made six 3-pointers on his way to 26 points to lead the Northeast Eagles in their 48-43 win in the championship game on the boys side of the Middle School Basketball Tournament held at West Creek Middle School Thursday, January 30th.
The Championship game became a 3-point shootout as both teams buried 5 shots from downtown in the final period. Cross made the first and last 3-pointer of the game. His last broke a 41-41 tie with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The lead changed 13 times before Cross’ last 3-pointer gave the Eagles a 44-41 lead.
Afterwards Cross made two free throws with 1:19 left on the clock to extend the Eagles lead to 5 points. The Hawks began fouling in order to close the gap in the last minute, but the Eagles remained out of reach. Cross made 4 of 6 free throws in the last minute for the Eagles.Cross was one of four Eagles to score in the game. Rossview made five 3-pointers in the game, three in the final period. Clayton Spence led the Hawks with 12 points.
The win gave the Eagles first place in the tournament and made Rossview the runner up.
The Kenwood Knights defeated the Dickson Cougars 44-40 in the consolation round to earn third place in the tournament.
Kenwood’s Xa’von Johnson Clement led all scorers with 21 points. Darius Clark scored 9 points and Tashawn Wright added 8.
Demontez Coleman was one of two Cougars to score double digits. Coleman scored 14 and Darin Burns scored 12.
Down 19-15 at halftime, the Cougars scored 17 points in the third period to tie the game at 32. However, the Knights took advantage of turnovers and fouls to outscore the Cougars 12-8 in the last period and win the game.
