Clarksville, TN – For a third straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has been saluted with the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award.
The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. As a team the Lady Govs golfers posted a 3.738 grade-point average in the fall and 3.640 in the spring.
In addition to women’s golf, the Lady Govs tennis team also received the Team Academic Achievement Award in its sport. The Lady Govs saw six of their seven team members earn OVC Commissioner Honor Roll status for 2010-11. Morehead State claimed the OVC’s overall Academic Achievement Award for 2010-11.
In addition to the team academic achievement awards, the OVC Medals of Honor and OVC Commissioners Honor Roll were announced Tuesday. The Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athlete who achieves the highest grade-point average in a conference-sponsored sport. A record 164 Medals of Honor were announced, with Austin Peay owning nine of them—all posting 4.0 GPAs for the year: Lucas Anderson, baseball; Nikki Talley, women’s basketball; Ben Stansfield, football; Catie Tucker, Holly Batey and Tabitha Beard, women’s golf; Samantha Northrup, women’s soccer; Molly Basch, women’s track and field and Calyn Hull, women’s volleyball.
In addition, a league-record 1,039 student-athletes earned OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.25 GPA) recognition for 2010-11, with 90 selections representing Austin Peay:
