Austin Peay enters the final three weeks of regular season play with a two-match lead in the OVC standings. The Governors are 9-1 in league action and are followed by both Morehead State and Murray State at 7-3.
The Govs own an 11-match home win streak that dates back to last season’s OVC Volleyball Championship. They are one of 14 teams with a double-digit home win streak in Division I.
The Govs were ranked No. 48 in the season’s first NCAA Volleyball RPI, October 7th. It was the highest RPI ranking for an OVC team since the current RPI was established in 2006. Austin Peay enters this week ranked No. 72 in the RPI.
Senior middle blocker Logan Carger led the Govs offense last week, posting double-digit kills in all three matches. She finished with 35 kills, 11 blocks and 4 aces, averaging 3.32 points per set.
Sophomore setter Caroline Waite came up big when the Govs faced their first 0-2 deficit of the season. Starting the third set, she led the Govs to a .337 team attack percentage in the final three sets while averaging 9.00 assists per set as the Govs rallied for the win.
Junior libero Ginny Gerig had another solid week in the back row for the Govs, finishing the three-match sting with 59 digs (4.21/set), nine service aces (0.64/set) and was charged with just two reception errors.
Freshman middle blocker Karli Graham also made a big impact in the Govs come-from-behind win against Tennessee Tech, playing four sets and recording six kills, a .333 attack percentage and a pair of blocks.
Austin Peay’s magic number to clinch the title outright stands at five over Murray State and four versus Morehead State.
The earliest the Govs could clinch the regular-season title on their own is next Saturday at Eastern Kentucky.
