Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior pitcher and outfielder Morgan Rackel, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Rackel handled her first week as a Governor with aplomb, throwing two complete games in the circle and hitting .300 for the week. In her debut, the Calgary native tossed a complete-game against Georgia Southern, scattering six hits and striking out eight and aiding her own cause with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

In her second career start at Alabama A&M, Tuesday, Rackel again went the distance for her first career win as a Governor, which also gave first-year head coach Rodney DeLong his first win at the helm of the Austin Peay softball program. Rackel struck out six over seven innings and went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior Aleh Drobysh, of the men’s tennis team, earned a three-set win against Southern Indiana’s Ilia Karelin (6-1, 6-7, 6-2) and teamed with Almantas Ozelis for a 9-7 doubles win against the Screaming Eagles as part of Austin Peay’s first win of the spring season.
  • Freshman forward Terry Taylor, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 13.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg last week as the Govs split with Murray State and Eastern Illinois.
  • Junior pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, placed ninth with a 3.92m (12-10.25) in the event at the Music City Challenge alongside some of the best amateurs in the nation.
  • Freshman Fabienne Schmidt, of the women’s tennis team, stepped into the No. 2 role for the Governors with a 6-1, 6-2 singles win against Oral Roberts’ Jovana Antonijevic, and also paired with Lidia Yanes Garcia for a 6-2 No. 1 doubles win as the Govs picked up their spring’s first victory.
  • Junior guard Keisha Gregory, of the women’s basketball team, poured in a career-high 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting and a perfect 9-of-9 showing at the free-throw line in Austin Peay’s 75-66 win at Eastern Illinois.
