Austin Peay Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – In the final weekend of competition before the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, several Austin Peay State University student-athletes will enjoy a homecoming of sorts at the Memphis Invitational, hosted by the University of Memphis at the Murphy Sports Complex.
The Govs will face stiff competition in this event; in addition to the host Tigers, Austin Peay will square off against athletes from Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Louisville, Arkansas State, Missouri, Arkansas-Little Rock and Central Arkansas, along with OVC foe Southeast Missouri. In her final meet in her hometown, Breigh Jones will look to improve her OVC standing in the 400m; her 55.50 has her seventh entering the event; teammate Terri Morris is third in the conference (and 87th in the East Region) in the event with a 54.84.
Last season, Jones swept the 200m and 400m dashes in Memphis, and also had a hand in the 4x400m relay victory.
Jones is among eight Memphians competing for APSU in this event, joining Michella Carter, LaMontra Robinson, Allysha Scott, Mallory Crawford, Tamira Wilson, Ashleigh Woods, and Myiah Johnson.
Freshmen Savannah Amato (first) and Dascha Hix (third) are among the top pole vaulters in the conference, and will square off with their main OVC competition—Southeast Missouri’s Sierra Maddox—in Memphis.
A week after posting her season-best 5.73m (18′ 9.75″) in the long jump at last week’s Missouri State Invitational, Chancis Jones looks to continue her progression with another strong showing this weekend.
The 2016 OVC Outdoor Championships are set for May 13th-14th, hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville, TN.
