Clarksville, TN – For the first time since January 30th, Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s tennis team will compete on its home surface, hosting SIU Edwardsville 2:00pm, Friday, before a 2:00pm, Sunday contest versus Eastern Illinois.
Both matches are expected to be played outdoors at the newly renovated Foy Fitness Center Courts.The Governors are searching for their season’s first victory after going 0-7 to begin the campaign. Last weekend, APSU was swept by Eastern Kentucky, 7-0, but showed improvements the following day despite a 4-2 loss at Morehead State. Doubles play was a strength for the Govs against the Eagles, earning the point as teams Almantas Ozelis/Aleh Drobysh and Alex Kartsonis/Chad Woodham claimed victories.
SIUE (5-9, 1-0 OVC) grabbed its season’s first conference win, last Sunday, against EIU, 4-3. The Cougars sit at .500 (34-34) in doubles matches, while Tristan Houle leads the singles lineup at No. 1 with a 7-15 record.
The Panthers (2-9, 0-1 OVC) loss to SIUE was their sixth-straight loss in 2016. Robert Skolik and Ryan Henderson are the frontrunners for EIU, with a combined 12 singles wins between them.
