Clarksville, TN – Held the first Saturday of June each year, Flying High is an evening celebrating artists and the works of art of the region. Flying High is Customs House Museum’s preeminent fundraiser of the year, supporting educational and exhibit programming of the Museum.
This year’s event will be held at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center with a theme of Arabian Nights!
The evening starts at 5:00pm with a silent auction. Dinner is at 7:00pm, followed by the live auction at 8:00pm and live music and dancing to conclude the evening.Tickets to this event are $125.00 for Museum members, and $175.00 for non-members. To purchase ticket(s), please contact Linda Maki at 931.648.5780.
The museum Guild, a volunteer body that focuses on raising funds for the museum with various fundraising events, is instrumental in the vision and execution of Flying High; this year’s Flying High is chaired by Jaime Durrett and Dee Ann Colburn.
Flying High is a wonderful opportunity to collect unique works from artists who support the museum’s mission, including this year’s signature piece which is a mixed media work created exclusively for this event by local artist Mrs. Beverly Parker, entitled “Sail Away.”
“I am honored to be chosen for the 2015 Signature piece for Flying High,” says Parker. “This year’s theme Arabian Nights opened a world of possibilities, but one thing was obvious, I could have my way with color. My choice was to have one representational element, Sinbad’s ship, and then emphasize color, texture, shape and space. The ribbon-like shapes radiating through the image, metallic grapes, sand-like texture and gold embellished ship remind one of a voyage to a faraway exciting and fanciful place.”
“Flying High is like no other event in town and has a rich history of attracting individuals dedicated to arts and heritage to raise money that allows the Customs House Museum to continue to bring quality events and programming to our community,” said chair Jamie Durrett. “I am looking forward to spending a whimsical, magical Arabian Night with our wonderful museum supporters. We appreciate all the individuals and businesses that make this event possible.”
Located at the corner of Second Street and Commerce Street, the Customs House Museum is the second largest general museum in Tennessee.
