Clarksville, TN – Sophomore infielder Garrett Copeland, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Copeland hit .500 (6-for-12) with three multi-hit games serving to push his batting average up to a team-high .345. He also had three extra-base hits – all doubles – and scored six runs while driving in three.
In the midweek non-conference contest against UT Martin, Copeland was 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored, opening the scoring for the Govs with a third-inning double that drove in Imani Willis.
In the Govs come-from-behind win against Jacksonville State, Sunday, Copeland struck a blow in the sixth inning, driving in Dre Gleason with a double before coming around to score on a Ridge Smith ground out. An inning later, he reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Patrick Massoni, then scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch.The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included
- Senior Jovana Karac, of the women’s tennis team, won matches at No. 6 singles against Coastal Georgia’s Alden Minick (6-2, 6-2) and UT Martin’s Florence Nicole (6-0, 6-3), also picking up doubles victories for the Lady Govs against Coastal Georgia and Southeast Missouri last week.
- Sophomore first baseman Dre Gleason, of the baseball team, hit .412 (7-for-17) with three doubles and three runs scored in four starts last week, including a 3-for-3 day against UT Martin in the midweek and a 2-for-5, two runs scored performance in Sunday’s win against Jacksonville State.
