Clarksville, TN | Governors Stadium
Clarksville, TN – It’s Senior Day when the Austin Peay football team wraps up the 2014 season by playing host to Tennessee Tech, 4:00pm, Saturday.
Saturday’s contest not only will be the final home appearance for the seniors but the final time those 18 will represent APSU on the football field.
They are: defensive backs Johnathan Shuler, Montez Carlton, Buddy Mitchell and Bradford Wilmer; wide receivers Jamaar Embry, Javier Booker and Hunter Branch; defensive linemen Malcolm Goines, DeAndre Carroll and Nii Lartey; offensive linemen Nathan Sanders, Isaiah Tuisasosopo, Travis Williams, Julian Virgo, Melvin McDaniel and Zach Amis; long snapper Michael Dunphy and punter Ben Campbell.APSU will attempt to send out those seniors on a winning note. Although those Govs had limited success on the field in recent seasons, they will be remembered as the first senior class that played in New Governors Stadium—the first senior class to actually call home the Bill Dupes Locker Room its home.
APSU is coming off a 42-7 road loss at Southeast Missouri in a contest that saw the Govs move the football much of the first half but unable to gain entry into the end zone. Defensively, the Govs unusually were knifed for multiple big plays, two resulting directly into scores.
APSU will be playing a 4-7 (2-5 OVC) Tennessee Tech team that has yet to win on the road this season. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 38-17 Senior Day home loss to No. 9 Chattanooga, the same Mocs team that beat the Govs to open new Governors Stadium back in early September.
The Golden Eagles fashion a two-quarterback system of Darian Stone and Jared Davis, with majority of their completions going to freshman Brock McCoin (40 receptions, 513 yards) and Cody Matthews (38 catches, 499 yards).
Tennessee Tech also features the dangerous Ladarius Vanlier who doubles as a running back (402 yards rushing, 4 TDs) and superb kick returner (16.3 ypr, 2 TDs returning punts; 22.8 ypr, 1 TD as kick returner).
Earlier this year, Tennessee Tech head coach—and former APSU head man—Watson Brown gained nationally attention for losing his 200th game as a college head coach.
