Family-friendly Activities for All Ages
Clarksville, TN – In the midst of global change and economic recovery, on the home front families continue to be affected by cancer, touching lives in communities across the country. An equal opportunity disease, various forms of cancer affect both the young and old, people of all ethnicities, on all socio-economic levels.
These realities make the dollars donated and volunteer hours devoted to the American Cancer Society—a part of Clarksville for many years—critically important. Local volunteers are a huge part of a nationwide effort to save lives from cancer, but additional people are needed for the progress to continue.
The world’s largest grassroots fundraising movement, Relay For Life, mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against all forms of the disease.Relay is a mainstay in the Clarksville community and brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups . . . people from all walks of life – all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s vision of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
The money raised at Relay enables the American Cancer Society to deliver on its mission of helping people stay well, helping people get well, finding cures and fighting back against the disease.
Relay provides the Society with money to support vital, cutting-edge cancer research, such as Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital; provides cancer patients with numerous local services—free wigs, free beauty consultation through “Look Good…Feel Better,” donated breast prosthesis are available in Nashville; and, food and financial assistance through Clarksville Urban Ministries, transportation to treatment by Clarksville Para-Transit Service, Camp Horizon Oncology Camp for children with cancer (and siblings); publishes lifesaving literature on cancer prevention, detection and tobacco control; and develops a new generation of medicine that help those battling cancer.
The Montgomery County Relay For Life event will be held in Clarksville beginning at 5:00pm on May 16th at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center Athletic Field, 250 Old Farmers Road. Free and open to the public, this family-friendly event has something to offer for participants of all ages.
