APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team hosts a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches, this weekend, when Southeast Missouri and UT Martin visit Clarksville.
The Lady Govs host the Redhawks, 11:00am, Friday, before a 1:00pm, Saturday, match against the Skyhawks.
The Lady Govs need a strong weekend to get back on track in the OVC race. At 1-3 in the conference and nearing the halfway point on the OVC schedule, Austin Peay could use a win to get back in the hunt for a spot in the OVC Tournament.Sophomore Ornella di Salvo was the only Lady Gov to win both matches last weekend, a nice bounce-back from being the only Lady Gov to lose against Northern Iowa in the last mid-week non-conference match. She brings a 7-7 record into the weekend, tied with Vanessa Tavares for most victories among the Lady Govs.
Senior Jessica Courtnell leads the 2-5 (0-3 OVC) Redhawks into the weekend. Her 4-2 mark at No. 4 singles is a bright spot for a Southeast Missouri squad in the midst of a three-match losing streak.
For UT Martin (2-9, 1-0 OVC), a 4-3 victory against SIU Edwardsville to open the conference campaign perhaps indicated a turnaround for a squad that lost eight of its first nine. Junior Ivon Simic is 4-7 for the Skyhawks at No. 1 singles.
