Palmyra, TN – Cross Creek Clays will host its popular annual Night Stalker fundraising event on April 21st-23rd, 2023.
This year’s clay shoot will memorialize one of the original members of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) Night Stalkers, LTC Michael C. Grimm.
About Night Stalkers & LTC Michael C. Grimm
Also known as “the father of the Little Birds,” LTC Michael C. Grimm was known for his leadership and aviation skills. The first commander of the 160th’s Little Birds, he was a soldier’s soldier who led by example.
“I am honored and privileged to have served with LTC Michael C. Grimm,” says Cross Creek Clays Owner & General Manager Joseph Calabrace, also a founding member of the 160th. “LTC Grimm molded a bunch of young and inexperienced Army Aviators into the most elite helicopter unit in the world.”
Forty years ago, while training for a second rescue attempt of the hostages held in Iran, Grimm was killed while leading a flight of 16 MH-6 Little Birds on a low-level Night Vision Goggle (NVG) flight over the Cumberland River.
“I was on the training mission the night he died in the crash over Dover, TN,” says Calabrace. “I was blessed to have known him and modeled my Army and civilian careers from the lessons he taught us.”
Last year, Cross Creek Clays started memorializing former Night Stalkers who have given their lives to protect the freedoms we all enjoy.
“Without these ultimate sacrifices, we would not have accomplished our task of protecting and defending this great nation,” says Calabrace. “As Night Stalkers, it is our duty to remember those who blazed the trail forward.”
