Clarksville, TN – If you’re a fan of Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics, especially the spring-sport variety, this is your week, with all Governors spring sports having critical games or events this week – most of which will come on campus.
Softball, baseball, beach volleyball and track and field all have home events this week, while men’s golf and both the men’s and women’s tennis teams have key road trials, they must face over the next seven days.
Kicking things off this week will be men’s golf, on Monday, as they make the short trip to Nashville, TN, and Richland Country Club to participate in 15-team field at the Lipscomb University Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate, the last regular-season tournament for the Govs before they head to the OVC Championship Tournament on April 22nd-24th.
Tuesday will see the first of several home events for Austin Peay teams this week, with the Govs softball team hosting Murray State, for a key Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader, while baseball hosts Evansville in a non-conference matchup.
The Govs softball games versus Murray State, at Cheryl Holt Field-Cathi Maynard Park, will see a matchup up of two of the top four teams in the current OVC standings – along with being a part of the season-long Heritage Bank Battle of the Border series between the two schools.
The Govs softball team also have OVC road doubleheaders coming up this week at Southeast Missouri and UT Martin on Friday and Sunday.
Austin Peay’s baseball game versus Evansville, on the other hand, will be the first of four home games the Govs will have this week, with Morehead State coming to town for a big three-game OVC series this Friday through Sunday at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.
After two matches at UT Martin on Wednesday, the beach volleyball team returns home Friday and Saturday to host the Govs Beach Bash, the final tournament of the season to closeout its 2019 regular-season schedule with the Governors looking to finish with an overall winning record for the first time in the program’s three-year history.
Friday and Saturday will also see the women’s outdoor track and field team host its lone home meet of the spring, at Fortera Stadium, the APSU Invitational.
Governors team’s also seeing action on the road this weekend will be the men’s and women’s tennis teams, with the women’s team taking on Eastern Illinois, Friday, and SIU Edwardsville, Saturday, looking to remain undefeated on the season, while the men’s team has a lone matchup on Friday at Eastern Illinois.
