Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) recently partnered with the City of Clarksville to offer currently enrolled APSU students free annual bike-share memberships with Clarksville BCycle.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new campus BCycle station took place on Thursday, August 30th, 2018 outside the APSU Foy Fitness and Recreation Center.

“This is a wonderful step forward toward the University’s strategic goals for sustainability,” Alisa White, APSU president, said.

“In addition, the BCycle station provides access to additional forms of recreation and entertainment, especially in the historic downtown area, which also brings enhanced economic impact to area businesses. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the city on this project, and I am confident the bicycles will be enjoyed by our students,” stated White.

Thanks to an award-winning “Great Green Idea” by former Student Government Association (SGA) President Frank Burns, the support of the SGA and the Sustainable Campus Fee Committee, the new station with 10 BCycles was installed at the Foy Center on campus. The station and highly recognizable bikes were paid for by the APSU Sustainability fee and will be maintained and operated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department.

“This station will offer transportation and healthy recreation options, and also will connect Austin Peay students with our downtown, parks and greenways,” Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said. “We hope this will be the first of many BCycle stations on campus.“

The free student membership can be used at the city’s other BCycle stations at Liberty Park, Cumberland Riverwalk, downtown at Public Square and the Clarksville Greenway’s Pollard Road Trailhead. The membership also can be used in other BCycle cities, like Nashville Tennessee.
