Picking 25th
The Titans possess six picks—all of their original selections with the exception of their seventh rounder. In 2017, they traded their 2018 seventh-round choice to the Kansas City Chiefs for defensive lineman David King. The last time the Titans had six picks or fewer in a single draft was 2014 (six picks).
In addition to the 25th overall pick in the first round, the Titans possess their original pick in Rounds 2 (57th overall), 3 (89th overall), 4 (125th overall), 5 (162nd overall) and 6 (199th overall).
The Titans were one of seven teams in 2017 to win nine games. However, due to their Divisional Playoff Round finish, they will choose later than the other teams at pick 25 in every round.
Barring a trade, the 25th overall pick will be the lowest the Titans have picked in the first round since 2009, when they selected wide receiver Kenny Britt with the 30th overall choice. The Titans have never previously picked from the 25th slot in the draft.
In 51 drafts since 1967, when the NFL and AFL agreed to a “common draft,” there have been nine No. 25 overall picks that have gone on to make at least one Pro Bowl: wide receiver Stanley Morgan (drafted in 1977 by the New England Patriots), nose tackle Ted Washington (1991, San Francisco 49ers), guard Jermane Mayberry (1996, Philadelphia Eagles), linebacker Jon Beason (2007, Carolina Panthers), cornerback Mike Jenkins (2008, Dallas Cowboys), cornerback Vontae Davis (2009, Miami Dolphins), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (2012, New England Patriots), cornerback Xavier Rhodes (2013, Minnesota Vikings) and cornerback Jason Verrett (2014, San Diego Chargers).
Last year with the 25th-overall pick, the Cleveland Browns selected safety Jabrill Peppers.
Other recent noteworthy 25th picks include the following: cornerback Artie Burns (2016, Pittsburgh Steelers), quarterback Tim Tebow (2010, Denver Broncos), wide receiver Santonio Holmes (2006, Pittsburgh Steelers), defensive end Charles Grant (2002, New Orleans Saints) and defensive tackle Chris Hovan (2000, Minnesota Vikings).
