Clarksville, TN – After opening the spring session with a solid runner-up showing two weeks ago at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor, Austin Peay State University men’s golf looks to maintain the momentum at this week’s Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola-Maryland at Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
The second edition of the event takes place at Fort Lauderdale Country Club’s North Course, built in 1951 and playing par-72 on precisely 7,000 yards. Action begins with 8:30am shotgun starts, Monday and Tuesday, with 36 holes scheduled Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
The Govs will be joined in the field by a host of school’s up and down the Eastern seaboard. In addition to Austin Peay and host Loyola, the field will be packed with student-athletes from Boston College, Connecticut, Davidson Drexel, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Hartford, Old Dominion, St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Toledo and Villanova.
In Austin Peay’s last outing, sophomore Michael Busse finished third to earn a share of the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week honor, posting the best finish and best 54-hole score (212) of his career, sinking a tournament-best 15 birdies along the way.
Busse will play as the No. 2 this week after Alex Vegh, who was just behind him last time out at Savannah Harbor with a sixth-place 213, his second straight top-10 in the event. He won the practice competitions in the intervening weeks to ascend to the top spot.
Sophomore Austin Lancaster and freshmen Chase Korte and Jay Fox will remain in the lineup for another week for the Govs, who will be paired with Hartford and assorted individual players from competing institutions.
Live scoring will not be available for this event, but a complete recap will be available at the conclusion of play each day at LetsGoPeay.com.
