Clarksville, TN – In a low scoring affair, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team fell in their Ohio Valley Conference opener 61-38 to SIU Edwardsville, Thursday.
Both teams came out cold from the floor, with neither side scoring in the first six minutes of the game.
Brianah Ferby led the way for the Govs in the first quarter scoring four points, as Austin Peay (7-5) and the Cougars jockeyed for the lead.
The Governors won the bench battle in the second quarter getting a five-point lift from guards Shelbe Piggie and Myah LeFlore. The Governors rotated through several lineups looking for an offensive spark.
The Governors defense was the story of the night as the Govs forced 26 turnovers, converting 15 points off of turnovers. Austin Peay also collected a season high 14 steals against the Cougars, with Bri Williams tying a career high with five takeaways.
Falon Baker led the way scoring nine points, pulling down three rebounds and dishing out three assists. Shelbe Piggie scored five points and recorded two rebounds in her 18 minutes of play.
Game Notes
The Govs are now 4-11 all time against the Cougars. It is the first time this season the Govs have been held to less than 40 points.

The Governors recorded a season high 14 steals.
Williams tied a career high with five steals.
