Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University men’s basketball alumnus and member of the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship team, Assane Diop will continue his basketball career in familiar territory.
Diop will return to Japan, where he finished high school and gained notoriety as a standout prep player before coming stateside, first at Cloud County Community College, then at Austin Peay, to continue his basketball career on the professional level with Gifu Seiryu Heroes of the Challenge Summer League.
In his first stint in the Land of the Rising Sun, Diop was a star for Nobeoka Gakuen, averaging 26 points and 15 rebounds to twice earn the league championship and accompanying tournament MVP honors.
During his Austin Peay career, Diop averaged 2.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in just under 10 minutes per contest in his 71 appearances, playing a pivotal bench role for the Governors in the 2016 OVC Tournament.
