Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – This Saturday, November 5th, 2016, the Austin Peay State University athletics department will honor local veterans and military-affiliated individuals with a special Military Appreciation Day during APSU’s 4:00pm football game at Fortera Stadium.

All veterans, active-duty personnel and their families will receive free admission to the game with a current military I.D., and several military vehicles will be on display in tailgate alley and inside the stadium.

More than 20 percent of APSU students have a military connection, making the University the state’s largest provider of higher education to active duty military, veterans and their families.

The University works hard to provide assistance and services to these individuals, and APSU is consistently recognized on the state and national level for its efforts.

In 2015, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) designated APSU as a Veterans Education Transition Support Campus (VETS) for the supportive environment it provides student veterans.

On Saturday, military groups will take the field before the game and unfold a large American flag for the National Anthem. At the end of the anthem, helicopters from Fort Campbell will fly over Fortera Stadium. Brig. Gen. Scott Brower, acting commanding general for the 101st Airborne Division, will serve as an honorary team captain for the Governors, and he will conduct the coin toss to begin the game.

Several other activities are scheduled to recognize individuals with a military connection.
