Titans Look For Three Consecutive Wins

Tennessee TitansAgainst the Colts, the Titans are looking for their third consecutive victory. They won a road game at the Miami Dolphins on October 9th and last week defeated the Cleveland Browns at Nissan Stadium by a final score of 28-26. The Titans, who trail the first-place Houston Texans (4-2) by one game in the AFC South, have not won three consecutive games in a season since Weeks 2-4 of the 2011 campaign.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 17 of 24 passes for 284 yards against the Browns and passed for three touchdowns for the second consecutive week. His 132.6 passer rating versus Cleveland was the third-highest number in his two-year career and gave him six games in 18 career starts with a passer rating of 100 or better.

Mariota also rushed for 64 yards against the Browns. He has accounted for 124 yards on the ground in the last two games.

Wide receiver Kendall Wright was on the receiving end of eight of Mariota’s completions and finished the contest with a game-high 133 receiving yards. The fifth-year wideout reached the 100-yard mark for the fifth time in his career with a yardage total that ranked second in his career (150 vs. Arizona on December 15th, 2013).

Meanwhile, the Titans defense continued to pile up sacks. They recorded six sacks against the Browns, accomplishing the feat for the second consecutive week. Wesley Woodyard, Avery Williamson, Sean Spence, Jurrell Casey, Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo each notched a solo sack versus Cleveland, one week after the team totaled six sacks at Miami. The last time the Titans recorded back-to-back games with six or more sacks was 2010.

Orakpo enters the game against the Colts with a streak of five consecutive games with at least one sack. If he extends his streak to six games, it would mark the seventh time in franchise history a player accomplished the feat and the first time since Jevon Kearse had six consecutive games with a sack in 2003.

Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis ColtsThe Colts traveled to Houston last week for a Sunday night showdown with the Houston Texans and fell in overtime by a final score of 26-23. The Colts held a 23-9 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but the Texans rallied with two touchdowns in the final three minutes of regulation. The Texans drove for a 33-yard game-winning field goal on their first possession of overtime.

At Houston, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck passed for 252 yards and a touchdown, and he added 53 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Luck, the first-overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, was named to three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2012–2014 before being limited to five games in 2015 due to injury. Earlier in 2016, he reached the 15,000-yard career passing plateau in his 56th career game, becoming the second fastest in NFL history to hit the mark.

Luck and Colts head coach Chuck Pagano are in their fifth season together in Indianapolis. They earned playoff berths in each of their first three seasons before posting an 8-8 record in 2015 and missing out on a division title by one game.
