APSU Women's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityCape Girardeau, MO – For the first time in three attempts this season, Austin Peay State University women’s golf did not break the school 54-hole record.

Equaling the second-best three-round mark in school history will have to do.

The Governors 915—the same 54-hole mark they tallied at the season-opening Drake Creek Invitational three weeks ago—gave them seventh at the MVC Preview at Dalhousie Golf Club, Tuesday.

“They had their eyes set on a third record in three events (in 2016-17),” said head coach Sara Robson. “We’ll work hard to continue breaking records at our home event (in two weeks).

“But there are a ton of positives to take away from this week. We had a team effort yesterday and have some people moving in the right direction. Today the course was set up harder and we didn’t execute our best at times.”

APSU Women's Golf - Taylor GoodleyMurray State (871; plus-seven) won the tournament by 13 shots over UMKC (884), with Wichita State (897), Arkansas State (902) and Southern Illinois (907) rounding out the top-five. Wichita State’s Taryn Torgerson (213, three-under par) was individual medalist, followed by Murray State’s Linette Holmslykke and UMKC’s Cynthia Diaz (214, two-under par)

For the third time in as many events, sophomore Taylor Goodley led the way for Austin Peay. Her final-round 76 put her at plus-seven for the tournament (71-76-76=223) and gave her a share of 11th for the tournament.

APSU Women's Golf - AnnaMichelle MooreConsistency was key for senior Morgan Kauffman and junior AnnaMichelle Moore, who slotted in behind Goodley among APSU’s leaders. Kauffman (77-77-77=231; t-32nd) shot even-par over her final eight holes to help the Governors final tally, while Moore (78-76-79=233; t-38th) was two-over on her first nine holes of the final round.

Following a second-round 84 that was her highest of the fall, sophomore Ashton Goodley rallied with a final-round 77 to finish tied for 46th with a 237 (76-84-77), while freshman Meghann Stamps rounded out the lineup with a 243 (83-75-85; t-62nd). Senior Kelsey Schutt, competing as an individual, finished tied for 50th (80-78-81=239).

A 169-yard par-3, Hole No. 8 proved to be a burden on the Govs today, with Austin Peay losing six strokes on that hole alone—only Goodley (par) and Schutt (birdie) were able to avoid going over par.

“That hole played very hard,” Robson said. “Ashton finished there; she was three-over for the day, hit it short and had an impossible lie, probably one of the hardest of the day, in the bunker.”

The Governors host the 2016 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate next week at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, TN. The 36-hole event begins Monday with a noon shotgun start.
