Montgomery County Election Commission become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Election Commission is the latest county department to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan were present at the green ribbon cutting to congratulate Vickie Koelman and the employees.

Administrator of Elections, Vickie Koelman described some of the steps she and her staff have taken to conserve resources, “We adjust our thermostats for savings, keep lights off in unoccupied rooms, shut down equipment in the evenings and on weekends, conserve paper, and recycle the paper we use. We also recycle cardboard, plastic and cans.  The driver’s license kiosk, located in our office, keeps people from driving across town and allows them the convenience of renewing or changing an address on their license quickly. We also provide voter registration list electronically to candidates, elected officials and political parties rather than printing them to save paper, time and money. We have poll pads (I-pads) in several of our voting precincts which allows our poll workers to check voters in electronically. We look forward to adding poll pads at other precincts as budgeting allows.”

Koelman mentioned that it was because of the support of the Election Commission and the ideas from her staff that her office has taken so many steps to save and “go green”. She gave special recognition to Brandi Ficklin, who serves as a Deputy at the Election Commission, for leading the green initiative.

The mission of the Montgomery County Election Commission is to promote voter registration and the electoral process, to secure the freedom and purity of the ballot, to provide federal, state, and local election products and services to the citizens of Montgomery County, so they have equal access to the election process and may exercise their right to vote in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.
