Three APSU Volleyball players earn OVC weekly honors

APSU Women's Volleyball - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Three Austin Peay State University volleyball student-athletes received weekly honors from the Ohio Valley Conference, Monday afternoon.

Sophomore outside hitter Cecily Gable was named the league’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Eastern Kentucky’s Cassie Knutson. Sophomore setter Kristen Stucker was named OVC Setter of the Week and junior transfer outside hitter Kaitlyn Teeter was its Newcomer of the Week.

Gable, of Memphis, Tennessee, ended the week by setting her career high in kills in three consecutive matches and was named the Most Valuable Player at The Citadel’s Bulldog Invitational.

She recorded a career-best 16 kills in the win against Charleston Southern while posting a .257 attack percentage.

Gable then added back-to-back career best 17-kill outings against Elon and Savannah State, in four and three sets, respectively. She finished the week with 64 kills and a .314 hitting percentage.

Stucker, of Johnston, Iowa, averaged 11.1 assists per set last week. She had 45 assists, four kills and two aces against Saint Louis, Tuesday. Stucker then had 33 assists against The Citadel and 39 against Charleston Southern. In the Govs four-set victory versus Elon, she had 52 assists, 14 digs, four kills and two blocks. She concluded the week with a 33-assist outing against Savannah State. For the week, she totaled 200 assists, 46 digs, 11 kills and marshalled the Austin Peay offense to a .256 team attack percentage.

Teeter, of Lebanon, Tennessee, posted double-digit kills in all five of the Governors matches last week, finishing with 67 kills (3.72 per set) and a .279 attack percentage. She began the week with a career-high 19 kills against Saint Louis. In APSU’s win over The Citadel, she had 11 kills and three blocks. Teeter followed that with a double-double (12 kills, 11 digs) and .379 attack percentage against Charleston Southern. She posted another double-double against Elon with 13 kills and 14 digs along with four blocks. Teeter finished the week with 12 kills and a .526 attack percentage versus Savannah State.

Gable becomes Austin Peay’s first OVC Offensive Player of the Week since Week 2 of last season when Ashley Slay earned the award. Stucker is the Govs first OVC Setter of the Week honoree since Aubrey Marsellis in Week 6 of the 2014 campaign. Teeter becomes APSU’s first-ever Newcomer of the Week since the award was established last season.

The trio helped lead Austin Peay to a perfect record at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by The Citadel, over the weekend and a 4-1 record during the week. The Governors won 14 of the 18 sets they played, including a 12-1 set record at the Bulldog Invitational.

Austin Peay now turns its attention to opening Ohio Valley Conference play, beginning with a 6:00pm, Friday contest against Southeast Missouri at the Dunn Center in Clarksville Tennessee.
