Memphis, TN – Austin Peay State University track and field battled the elements at this weekend’s Memphis Invitational, turning in several good marks despite the conditions at the Murphy Sports Complex that forced the postponement of Friday’s limited schedule and wreaked havoc at times during Saturday’s competition.
Terri Morris‘ fourth-place 400m dash finish proved to be Saturday’s best for the Lady Govs.Her 55.47 mark is the best by an Austin Peay runner in 2016; senior Breigh Jones, in her final meet in her hometown, placed eighth (55.78).
Senior Kymmalett Ross nearly broke her personal best in the 100m dash, hitting a season-best 12.02 mark to earn 12th in the event. She finished three-hundredths of a second off her personal-best time (11.99 at the 2015 OVC Outdoor Championships).
Junior Myiah Johnson turned in a 14.49 in the 100m hurdles to finish ninth in the event; classmate Molly Jordan also placed ninth in the 800m run thanks to her personal-best 2:14.44 mark.
Freshman Savannah Amato continued in excellent first campaign in the pole vault; her 3.89m (12′ 9″) mark in spite of the conditions earned her eighth-place honors in a stacked field that included four of the NCAA East Region’s top-40 pole vaulters.
Freshman Savanah Ayres also placed ninth in the javelin, hitting a personal-best 30.64m (100′ 6″) in the event. At 5.66m (18′ 7.25″), junior Chancis Jones also earned a top-10 finish in the long jump.
The Govs are back in action, May 15th-16th, at the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Championships, hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville, TN.
