APSU Men's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversitySpartanburg, SC – With the Ohio Valley Conference tournament just around the corner, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will play one final regular-season event when it returns to The Country Club of Spartanburg to participate in the 28th Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational, Monday and Tuesday.

This is the second straight year the Govs have participated in the Wofford-hosted event. They tied for sixth last year.

The tourney (36 holes, Monday, and 18 Tuesday) will be played on a par-72, 6,648-yard layout that owns a 70.2 course and 124 slope rating.

This is the seventh time The Country Club of Spartanburg has served as tourney host.

“Wofford hosts a great event,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson said. “Last year we came down and used this event at a springboard into the OVC. I felt the confidence we had entering the OVC tournament was because of some of the things we did in Spartanburg.”

This is the third time this season—second this spring—the Governors have traveled to South Carolina. They opened the fall with the Golfweek Program Challenge at Pawleys Island and then opened the spring at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at Hilton Head.

Army (-30) is the defending Wofford Invitational champion and again will lead a 16-team field. In addition, to host Wofford and the Governors, Appalachian State, Bethune-Cookman, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, High Point, Longwood, Presbyterian College, Radford, Stetson and USC Upstate will be competing.

A pair of seniors will be atop the lineup as Chris Baker and Austin Kramer will play at Nos. 1 and 2. Junior Erik Hedberg, who played No. 1 in the Red Wolves Intercollegiate, will be at No. 3 while sophomore Justin Arens and senior Tyler Phillips will follow.

This will be APSU’s final regular-season event before the OVC tournament, April 24th-26th, in Muscle Shoals, AL.
