Madison, IL – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team achieved its highest finish so far during the 2015 fall golf season when it took sixth place Tuesday in the 2015 SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational, played at the Gateway National Golf Links.
The Governors, who entered the day in fifth-place tie, shot a final-round 8-over 292 to end with an 857.
Host SIUE easily held on to win the tourney with an 844 score, followed by Belmont (849), UT Martin (852), Missouri State (854) and South Dakota (857) in the 15-team tournament.APSU could produce just one under-par score, Tuesday, that coming from senior Austin Kramer, who shot 1-under 71 to finish at 216. That was three shots behind fellow senior Chris Baker, who finished at even-par 213 with a final-round 5-over 76 on the par-71, 7,091-yard layout. Sophomore Justin Arens was one shot back at 214 after shooting a closing-round 74 to end at 214.
Meanwhile, junior Erik Hedberg finished at 218 with a 2-over 73 on the final day while senior Tyler Phillips was a final-round counter with his 4-over 75 to end at 226. Sophomore Alex Rios, playing as an individual, finished the tourney with an 80 and a 241 score.
South Dakota’s Jordan Rykal ran away with medalist honors, shooting a final-round 67 to end with a 14-under 199—he was four shots clear of second place.
