The two-day (36 holes Monday, 18 Tuesday), 54-hole event will be played on a par-71, 7,300-yard layout at Inverness, the host of nine major championships, including four U.S. Opens and a pair of PGA Championships since the course was opened in 1903.

It is still ranked as one of the top “Classic Golf Courses” in the country. It is the Govs second straight appearance at the event.

Not only will the Govs be playing on this historic old-school tree-lined course where ball placement will be at a premium, but they will be facing one of the strongest fields in program history. Ten of the 15 entered are ranked in the Top 100, led by No. 23 California, No. 32 UAB and No. 39 East Tennessee.

In addition, No. 52 Ohio State, No. 54 Michigan, No. 55 Purdue, No. 69 Yale, No. 84 Michigan State, No. 86 Mercer and No. 99 Kent State all will be there. Also there will be Akron, Miami (Ohio), Toledo, Northern Illinois along with the Governors.

“We couldn’t be more excited to go to Ohio and compete against some of the top programs in the nation,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson said. “Inverness is one of the classic American golf courses and this event surely feels like a major tournament.

“Having a veteran team, I feel our guys can rise to the occasion and compete with the very best. We will have to play confident, smart and make putts on some very challenging greens.”

Wilson will utilize the same group of Govs that went to Pawleys Island for the Golfweek Program Challenge, where the Govs shot three under-par rounds and gained a 10th-place finish against a strong field.

A trio of seniors—Austin Kramer, Chris Baker and Tyler Phillips—will play the Nos. 1-3 slots Monday, with sophomore Alex Rios and junior Erik Hedberg holding the final two lineup positions. Kramer, Phillips and Rios tied for APSU;’s best finish (27th) at even-par 216 while Baker was one shot back.

Live Scoring: There will be live scoring (every 3-6 holes) available through BirdieFire (http://bit.ly/1NtNa7G).
