Clarksville, TN – TJ Conroy, of San Jose, California, becomes the latest middle infielder to join the Austin Peay State University baseball team’s 2016 roster as it continues adding infield depth.
Conroy, a 6-0, 175-pound middle infielder, will transfer to Austin Peay after two seasons at De Anza College – a community college located in Cupertino, California.
Last season he batted .270 with 13 RBI and 22 runs scored in 37 games, striking out only 14 times in 162 plate appearances. That followed a freshman campaign that saw him bat .254 with 18 RBI in 34 games.“TJ has a good arm and capably can play all the infield spots,” said Governors head coach Gary McClure. “He is a productive left-handed hitter with a smooth swing and he takes a lot of pride in doing the little things at the plate that help a team win. TJ also is a good base runner who understands how to play the game. He is going to be a good addition to this team.”
Conroy prepped at Westmont High School and was a first-team all-conference selection as a senior. He batted .314 during his high school career and posted a .381 on-base percentage with 34 runs scored and 20 RBI.
Conroy is the sixth addition to the Austin Peay’s 2016 baseball roster. He joins infielder Parker Phillips, of Collierville, Tennessee; left-handed pitcher Austin Higginbotham, of Gainesville, Georgia; left-handed pitcher Brett Newberg, of Moline, Illinois; catcher Alex Sala, of Germantown Tennessee and middle infielder Max Remy of Reedsville, Pennsylvania.
