Fernando Rodriguez Throws Three No-Hit Innings
Nashville, TN – Behind a four-run second inning, the Oklahoma City Dodgers held off a comeback bid from the Nashville Sounds – who fell 4-2 at First Tennessee Park on Thursday night. Brad Mills (6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) received the ball for the Sounds and sans the one bad inning, was largely effective for the home team. Oklahoma City loaded the bases with no outs in the second frame and scored all four of their runs. They would lead wire-to-wire.
The Sounds recorded three hits in the fourth inning and pushed across a run when Niuman Romero (2-for-4) lined a single to left.
The men from the music city were able to cut the deficit to two when Dodgers pitching walked four straight batters with two outs in the seventh. Max Muncy (1-for-4) struck out with the bases loaded, however. It was a theme on the night for the Sounds who left eight men on base to the Dodgers three.
Fernando Rodriguez was a star in relief for the Sounds. The right-hander threw three no-hit innings and picked Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes off first in the ninth. Despite two errors by shortstop Andy Parrino, Rodriguez managed to face the minimum, while striking out four.
The Sounds (7-8) will try and avoid the sweep on Friday night. Oklahoma City (12-3) will send Joe Wieland (2-0, 1.80 ERA) to the bump. The Sounds will counter with Zach Neal, who will join the team from Double-A Midland tomorrow. He is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 3 starts this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
