Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play host to Eastern Kentucky, 1:00pm, Wednesday, in a Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Cheryl Holt Field.
The twinbill will be the second rescheduled meeting between the Lady Govs (8-30, 4-15 OVC) and an OVC opponent during the mid-week, with weather issues precipitating the need to move the games from the original play date.The two teams enter the doubleheader with streaks heading in opposite directions: APSU has lost its last nine games, while Eastern Kentucky (20-22, 10-6 OVC) enters riding a season-best five-game win streak.
After 38 games this season, the Lady Govs are led offensively by senior Laurel Burroughs (.333/7 HR/24 RBI), while Rikki Arkansas (.328/2 2B/4 RBI) and Niya Sparks (.219/7 HR/21 RBI) also are hitting better than .300 on the campaign.
Likewise, the Colonels also have three hitters coming in with .300-plus batting averages, led by Katie Tackett (.341/8 HR/28 RBI) followed by Sarah Fobbs (.321/7 HR/21 RBI) and Paige Murphy (.319/4 HR/7 RBI).
In the circle, Natalie Ayala (4-12/5.71 ERA/26 Ks) tops the Lady Govs pitching staff, while Sidney Hooper (2-9. 9.07 ERA/21 Ks) also has multiple wins this season.
Leanna Pittsenbarger (9-9/3.84 ERA/123 Ks) leads the EKU pitching staff, followed by Shaylon Robb (8-8/3.05 ERA/51 Ks).
