Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team has advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference Championship semi-finals as the Govs swept Morehead State 4-0, Friday, at Centennial SportsPlex.
With the win, the third-seeded Govs improve to 13-7 overall while Morehead State falls to 6-16 for the season.In doubles action, the Govs pairing of freshman Aleh Drobysh and sophomore Manuel Montenegro picked up an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 position. The Govs then clinched the doubles point when the pairing of seniors Iago Seffrin and Dimitar Ristovski earned an 8-6 win at the No. 1 slot.
In singles play, Austin Peay was led by senior Aleksas Tverijonas, who earned a 6-3, 6-1 win against Sabastian Penaloza at the No. 2 position and freshman Aleh Drobysh, who picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Enrique Samudio at the No. 6 slot. The Govs completed the sweep when sophomore Aaron Jumonville defeated the Eagles’ Gabriel Ruiz 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3.
The win moves Austin Peay into the semifinals against second-seeded Tennessee Tech in a 2:00pm, Saturday match at Centennial SportsPlex.
