Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for November 5th through November 13th, 2014

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Port Royal History Walk, Night Walk, Plants and Animals of Port Royal, Nature Hike at Port Royal, Dunbar Cave History and Sunset Hike.

Thursday, November 6th

Port Royal History Walk

Time: 9:00am–10:00am
Ages: 8 & up

Join us for a walk around Port Royal Historic Area. Meet at the upper parking lot (beside the Visitor Center).

Reservations By: 4:30pm November 4th.

Night Walk

Time: 5:00pm–6:30pm
Ages: All ages

The moon is full tonight, join us for a walk around the area – maybe we’ll see or hear owls, raccoons and other night creatures.

Friday, November 7th

Plants and Animals of Port Royal

Time: 9:00am–10:30am
Ages: 10 – adult

Walk the River Bottom Trail (1/2 mile) and learn the plants and animals of the area. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot.

Reservations By: 4:30pm November 5th.
Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist


End Of Day Hike

Time: 4:00pm–5:00pm
Ages: All ages

Join the ranger for a short hike as the day ends.

Saturday, November 8th

Nature Hike at Port Royal

Time: 2:00pm–3:30pm
Ages: 5 & up

Come to Port Royal State Park for a walk through trees and wildflowers, listen to birds and see what we can see on this easy ½ mile walk. Trail may be muddy, so come prepared. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot at Port Royal State Historic Area.

Sunday, November 9th

Dunbar Cave History

Time: 10:00am–11:30am
Ages: 5 & up

Join us for a walk around the area and learn about Dunbar’s past.

Monday, November 10th

Fall Hike at Port Royal

Time: 10:30am–11:30am
Ages: All ages

We will enjoy the crisp cool weather and the changing leaves on this ½ mile walk.

Sunset Hike

Time: 4:00pm–5:15pm
Ages: All ages

Walk through the woods and around the lake as the sun goes down.

Wednesday, November 12th

Trail of Tears at Port Royal

Time: 10:00am–11:00am
Ages: 10 and up

Learn about this time from the history of Port Royal. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot.

Thursday, November 13th

Nature Hike at Port Royal

Time: 2:00pm–3:30pm
Ages: All ages

Learn about plants and animals that call this area home. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot at Port Royal State Historic Area.

DCSNA and our KARST Topography

Time: 6:00pm
Ages: 12-adult

Dr. Phil Kemmerly, APSU Professor of Geology will present a program to discuss the important features of our newly acquired sink holes. Meet inside visitor center.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.

Port Royal State Historic Park is located at 3300 Old Clarksville Springfield Road, Adams, Tennessee.
