Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team is keeping an eye on the Ohio Valley Conference Championships as it competes in the UE Cross Country Invitational, 11:00am, Saturday, at Angel Mounds State Historic Site.
The five-kilometer race will be the Lady Govs final before the OVC Championship, November 1st, at Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford, Alabama. With a course that is expected to be very similar to the one found in Oxford, the Lady Govs are looking forward to have an experience to build on for the upcoming conference meet.
“It is supposed to be a very fast course and being beside the Ohio River it should be flat,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “Just like every week it’s a race against ourselves and our goal is to pick up personal records.”
In its last meet the Lady Govs placed five runners in the top-20 but were beaten out for first place by Georgia State. Sophomore Molly Jordan, who completed the five-kilometer race in 18:56.76, led the Lady Govs with a seventh-place finish. She was followed by senior Jessica Grey (9th, 19:00.75), freshman Sarah-Emily Woodward (12th, 19:10.09) and freshman Becca Wheeler (15th, 19:41.85). The scoring five was completed by sophomore Unjala Lester (19th, 20:03.88).
