Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Volleyball downs Montana State for 2nd-straight win

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUKnoxville, TN – Senior Jada Stotts recorded a season-best 23 kills to lead Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team to a four-set victory (25-22, 25-27, 25-18) against Montana State, Friday morning, at the DISH Lady Vol Classic at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Austin Peay (5-9) won the opening two sets in wire-to-wire fashion, though Montana State pushed APSU into overtime in the second set.

Following the break, Montana State grabbed an overtime victory in the the third set, which featured seven ties and two lead changes.

The fourth set started out in the same back and forth scenario, with seven ties and three lead changes early, but the Lady Govs took control late to secure the match with a 25-18 victory.

APSU's Jada StottsStotts scored 23 kills and posted a .333 attack percentage in the victory. Sophomore Sammie Ebright added 11 kills at a.276 attack percentage.

In addition, junior April Adams led Austin Peay with a season-high 24 digs while junior Aubrey Marsellis chipped in 43 assists, seven kills and four blocks.

“We are starting to understand we have to play with confidence and stop worrying about losing,” said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. “Jada obviously had a great outing this morning, but April and Aubrey have really stepped up their play and its making a huge difference for us right now.”

APSU's Aubrey MarsellisAustin Peay was credited with 57 kills in the win, but was held to a .198 attack percentage. Austin Peay did win both ends of the defensive battle, posting a 77-67 edge in digs and a 9-7.5 margin in blocks. That defensive effort stymied Montana State which posted 50 kills but was held to a .154 attack percentage.

Kennadie Clute led Montana State with 21 kills, but had 14 attack errors to finish with a .113 attack percentage.

Austin Peay will play Mercer in a 4:00pm (CT) contest that will be the third of APSU’s four matches in the DISH Lady Vol Classic.
