Northeast Lady Eagles Softball eliminates Clarksville Lady Wildcats 8-6

Northeast High School EaglesClarksville, TN – The Northeast Lady Eagles won a shootout against the Clarksville Lady Wildcats 8-6 to advance in the Gold Bracket of the 2014 Tennessee Softball Coaches Association (TSCA) Softball Tournament Saturday, April 12th.

The softballs were flying at North Field 4 of Heritage Park as the Lady Wildcats and the Lady Eagles combined to generate 18 hits in their TSCA tournament showdown.

The Lady Eagles did the majority of swinging, making 12 total hits in the game. Autumn Adams and Ciara Aragon led the way, both batting 2-for-3 in the game.

The Lady Eagles set the tone by plating three runs from four hits in the first inning. The Lady Wildcats countered with two runs of their own at the bottom of the first.

However, their offense stalled in the second while the Lady Eagles continued generating runs, adding two in the second and three in the third.

The Lady Wildcats made up some ground by plating four runs in the bottom of the third. But, Kayla Bradley took the mound for the Lady Eagles in the fourth and held the Lady Wildcats with no hits and no runs in the final innings.

Before Bradley, Aragorn allowed six runs from six hits with one walk and one strike out. Starting Lady Wildcat pitcher, McKenzie Rose allowed eight runs from 10 hits with one walk and a strike out.

Erica Webster brought in the first run for the Lady Eagles when she sent a line drive to center field with two on. After the first run scored, a bad throw to home plate let a second run score on Webster’s hit. Nikkia Reed brought in Webster with a shallow bloop shot to right field that just missed a diving Lady Wildcat outfielder.

Haley Beardon put the Lady Wildcats on the board with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Bearden batted 2-for-3 in the game with a home run and an RBI double.

Beardon’s RBI double came in the bottom of the third with her team down 8-2. Right after Bearden, Peyton Wilson hit a sac groundout to add another run. An error brought in the third run of the inning and Ashlee Knight hit an RBI single to bring the Lady Wildcats within two, 8-6.

The loss eliminated the Lady Wildcats from the tournament. They started the day ranked second in their pool after going 2-1 on Friday.

The Lady Eagles advanced to play Lexington. However, they lost to Lexington 6-2 and were eliminated from the tournament as well.
