Austin Peay Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team looks to shake off a loss to Tennessee Tech and get back to their winning ways when the Govs host Eastern Illinois (1:00pm, March 29th) and SIU Edwardsville (1:00am, March 30th) in Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend.
The Govs are mired in a bit of a March slump, dropping four of six matches during the month to fall to 7-5 overall, 2-2 in the conference. While junior Iago Seffrin has matched his usual doubles prowess with a three-match win streak in singles and junior Aleksas Tverijonas is 11-1 during the spring, Austin Peay has been off-kilter during March, treading around the .500 mark at 18-16 in singles play.Austin Peay’s doubles have continued to be a strong part of the lineup, with the top two pairs combining for a 14-7 mark. However, the Govs have not taken a doubles point since March 15th at Jacksonville State, dropping the point in three straight matches for the first time in head coach Ross Brown’s tenure.
Eastern Illinois (5-6, 2-2 OVC) is right in the thick of the race for the OVC Tournament after missing last year’s edition in Paducah, KY. The Panthers – who fell to Austin Peay 4-0 in last season’s match-up in Charlesto, IL – are led by Robert Skolik and Kevin Bauman, who are a combined 14-7 this season.
SIU Edwardsville (8-7, 2-2 OVC) is in the running for its first-ever OVC Tournament berth. The Cougars have a pair of players – Nicolas Vincent and Jacob Tanulanond – with matching 8-5 records, with Vincent third in the OVC in No. 1 singles victories.
Sunday will be Senior Day for Jasmin Ademovic, but will not be Austin Peay’s final home match. However, the Govs hit the road for a pair of matches at Morehead State (1:00pm, April 5th) and Eastern Kentucky (10:00am, April 6th).
