Austin Peay Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team swept an Ohio Valley Conference weekend for the first time since last April, making it back-to-back conference wins with a 4-0 sweep, Sunday, at the APSU Tennis Center.
The win moved the Lady Govs to 5-7 overall, with a 2-1 mark in OVC play. The loss dropped Tennessee State to 0-7, with an 0-4 mark in the league. The Lady Govs top three made short work of the top of Tennessee State’s lineup. In her second outing at No. 1, junior Ornella Di Salvo defeated Victoria Haynes (6-1, 6-1) – she’s won seven of her last eight, including both matches since moving to No. 1 this weekend.
The move down in the order seems to have helped senior Andra Cornea. She defeated Trinity Randolph (6-1, 6-0) at No. 2 to sweep her weekend.
Junior Vanessa Tavares won her sixth match of the spring, shutting out Jade Daniels (6-0. 6-0). Her six wins at singles are second-most on the squad behind Di Salvo.
Freshman Isabela Jovanovic won the last match of the day by default; Tennessee State plays an individual short in every match due to their five-woman roster size.
Austin Peay hosts Eastern Illinois (10:00am, March 29th) and SIU Edwardsville (1:00pm, March 30th) in conference play next weekend.
