Clarksville, TN – Down 7-0 after five innings, the Beech Buccaneers baseball team scored four runs in the sixth in a rally to at least tie the Clarksville High Wildcats Saturday, March 22nd, in the second game of a doubleheader at Clarksville High.
However, the Buccaneers rally came up short and the Wildcats won 7-5, improving to an undefeated 8-0 record.
Wildcats starting pitcher, Teal Young, held the Buccaneers scoreless during his five innings on the mound. Young finished the day allowing only 3 hits and striking out three.
However, the Buccaneers took advantage of the Wildcats sixth inning pitching change to score four runs.
Drew Jarrett was tagged with three of those runs in the sixth before another pitching change was made. Nolen Milton took the mound and closed the game for the Wildcats, allowing the Buccaneers only two more runs from three hits in the last inning and a half.The Wildcats scored all their runs in the first five innings. They scored at least one run in four of those five innings including three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Buccaneers starting pitcher, Jacob Grava, allowed six of those runs on 10 hits. He also struck out three and walked three.
Landon Mosteller and Mitch Muhlada both made three hits in the game for the Wildcats. Muhlada batted 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Mosteller batted 3-for-4 with one RBI. The Wildcats generated 12 total hits in the game.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. A mishandled high, fly ball in right field hit by Nolen Milton with two runners on, scored the Wildcats first run. Donnie Everett drove in the second with a line drive single straight up the middle to centerfield.
After adding runs in the second and third inning, the Wildcats scored their last three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
Zander Jett started the four-run rally by the Bobcats in the top of the sixth inning. Jett hit a grounder pass the Wildcats diving shortstop with a runner in scoring position for an RBI single.
After the next Bobcat batter was walked, Grava brought in two runs with a long fly ball that bounced off the Wildcats’ centerfielder’s glove. Grava came in for the last run of the inning on a sacrifice grounder hit by Todd Jones.
The win improved the Wildcats to 8-0. Next they will have a District 10-AAA match up with the Northwest Vikings at Vanderbilt’s Hawkin’s Field Monday, March 24th.
