Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team has home and road dates on tap this weekend, hosting Western Kentucky in a 1:00pm, Friday match at the Austin Peay Tennis Center before heading to Southern Indiana for a 6:00pm, Saturday matchup in Evansville, IN.
Although the 0-5 record is not the start head coach Ross Brown and the Lady Govs expected in 2014, improvement has been evident in every match, most recently last week’s outing at Lipscomb. The Lady Govs dropped a tough 4-3 match to a 5-2 Lipscomb team after winning the doubles point.
No. 1 doubles pairing Andra Cornea and Ornella Di Salvo have won two straight to shake off an 0-3 start and look to carry that into the weekend. As the Lady Govs top two singles players, it’s imperative the duo improve on their combined 1-9 mark in singles play this weekend.
Seeking to end their winless streak was how Austin Peay entered last season’s match against Southern Indiana, with the Lady Govs emerging victorious thanks to a 6-1 victory. Friday’s match will be Austin Peay’s first against the Hilltoppers since 2010; Cornea, then a freshman, picked up a victory at No. 3 singles against current Hilltopper No. 6 Alex Crofford.
The Lady Govs repeat their home-and-road weekend to end February and begin March, hosting Evansville (February 28th) and traveling to Lindsey Wilson College (March 1st), next weekend.
