Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University track and field team continues its strong early-season schedule at Saturday’s TSU Invitational. The single-day event kicks off at 8:00am at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track.
More than 30 teams will have athletes in attendance at this event, including a who’s-who of Ohio Valley Conference contenders. In addition to host Tennessee State, athletes from Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Murray State and Tennessee Tech will square off against the Lady Govs inside the Gentry Center.
“Good field this week,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “Lots of conference opponents to give us an idea of where we stand in the conference. I hope it will be a good weekend for us.”
The Lady Govs already have seen two school records fall in 2014, with Amia Butler (pentathlon) and Maikea Davis (200m dash) re-writing the Lady Govs record books. Both also have earned OVC Athlete of the Week honors, with Butler taking the most recent award for her sixth-place pentathlon performance at last week’s Gladstein Invitational.
Last season at Tennessee State, the Lady Govs got a victory in the 800m run from Chantelle Grey and a then school-record 5000m run from Xiamar Richards at Tennessee State. With a much larger field set to compete in 2014, the Lady Govs hope to achieve the same success this time out.
Austin Peay’s indoor season continues next weekend with a return trip to Southern Illinois at the SIU Invitational, February 7th-8th.
