Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will present “Civil War Comes to The Homeplace,” Saturday, December 14th, from 10:00am-3:00pm. Local historian, Susan “Ski” Witzofsky, will present War Between The Rivers at 1:00pm in The Homeplace Theater.
Come visit The Homeplace as the farm goes forward in time to the Civil War era.
Learn about 1863 from the Yeoman farm family’s point of view–living under the Union Army control. Foraging parties from both Northern and Southern armies confiscate food, livestock, clothing, quilts and blankets, and even the wood cook stove.Visit a Confederate encampment and learn how civilian soldiers coped with their new roles.
“We are excited to offer another Civil War themed program at Land Between The Lakes,” said Cindy Earls, Special Events Coordinator. “This focus on the Civil War experience of everyday farm families allows visitors a chance to see history come to life.”
Today, The Homeplace gives a glimpse of daily life in middle Tennessee during the Civil War. Enjoy a self-guided tour of a working second generation family farmstead as it would have appeared after three years of war with no draft animals, men, or equipment to plant a cash crop. Program available with paid admission; $5.00 adults, $3.00 ages 5-12, and free ages 4 and under.
Come Outside and Play at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area, managed by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. Land Between The Lakes provides outdoor recreation, lake access, and environmental education for the public to enjoy.
