Clarksville, TN – Getting out to a 17-point halftime lead, the Northeast High School Lady Eagles picked up their first win of the young season, November 14th at the Thomas-Young Gymnasium, with a 54-37 Hall of Fame Game victory over Montgomery Central High School.
Northeast (1-1) would get out of the gates quickly, jumping out to a 9-0 lead over the game’s first 4:48, before Montgomery Central’s MaKayla Flake ended the run with a basket at the 2:31 mark.
The Lady Indians get a three from Mallory Flake to cut it to four points, 9-5 with 2:07 left, but that would be as close as they would get with Northeast getting baskets from Jazzmyn Simpson and Sh’Niya Horn to give the Lady Eagles a 13-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter.Simpson would lead all scorers with 17 points.
Montgomery Central (0-1) would score the first three points of the second quarter to get back to within five, 13-8, but the Lady Eagles would go on a 12-0 run – including four points each by Simpson and Brook Barnett – to go up 17 points, 25-8 with 3:45 left before intermission.
The Lady Indians would end the Northeast run with two free throws by Tori Moore, with 3:01 left in the second quarter to make it 25-10, but Northeast would outscore the Lady Indians 6-4 the rest of the quarter to take a 31-14 advantage into halftime.
The second half would see the Lady Eagles slowly extend their lead, including their largest margin of the game, 24 points, at 45-21 following a basket by Danayla Odom with 2:52 left in the quarter.
But the Lady Indians would close out the quarter with a 10-2 run to outscore Northeast 17-16 overall in the quarter and trail by 16 points, 47-31 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
The final quarter would see Montgomery Central continue it surge, getting to within 14 points, 49-35, on a basket by Leslie Bradley with 5:42 left.
But that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way, as they only managed two more points, with the Lady Eagles coming away with a 17-point victory.
