Clarksville, TN – A green Austin Peay State University men’s cross-country squad will seek what will be for many a first crack at the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday, in an 8000m event. Morehead State hosts the 2013 running at Eagle Trace Golf Course.
Freshman Martin Rejman has emerged as the squad leader, that features just two upperclassmen, only one of whom was on the roster this time a year ago.He hasn’t finished lower than 23rd since the season-opening Brooks Memphis Twilight and owns two of Austin Peay’s three sub-27 minute 8K marks in 2013.
Freshman Daniel Hamm has the Govs other sub-27 minute time, which came at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, October 5th. He’s developed as a strong No. 2 to complement Rejman, finishing second among the Govs in four of five meets this season.
The Govs three-through-five spots remain up in the air as Austin Peay heads to Morehead State. Senior Tyler Kepley, sophomore transfer Cory Nwaiji and freshmen Hunter Guthrie, Alex Haycraft and Kyle Harmon have each scored top-five performances for the Govs in 2013 and will be counted on to provide depth and scoring for the Govs at Eagle Trace GC.
The race for the conference championship will not conclude the Govs season – head coach Doug Molnar plans to take at least some of the squad to the NCAA South Regionals, November 15th, in Tuscaloosa, AL at Harry Pritchett Running Park.
