Hopkinsville, KY – Murray State edged Austin Peay State University 301-305 in a dual women’s golf match played Saturday afternoon at The Links at Novadell. The Lady Govs recorded four scores under 80 while Murray State had three . But the combination of Alli Weaver (71) and Delany Howsom (72) combined for 1-under par to push the Lady Racers to victory.
Junior Tala Mumford, coming off her career’s best round (70) at Eastern Kentucky, again led the Lady Govs with a 2-over 74, followed by sophomore Meghan Mueller with a 75. Mueller’s play has ascended this spring.Freshman Jessica Cathey, who struggled with her season’s worst performance at EKU, bounced back with a 77, Saturday. Senior Tabitha Beard recorded a 79 while Rachel Deaton shot an 83.
Senior Holly Batey and Lauren Bond, playing as individuals, shot 81 and 83, respectively.
“Overall, I thought we played well,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We didn’t hit as many greens as we would have liked, but we did a good job of getting up and down.
“Tala and Meghan continued to play well. Jessica bounced back and Tala had a 79 so we had four scores below 80. Hopefully, we can carry that momentum through the rest of the weekend.”
The Lady Govs will play Tennessee State at The Hermitage, Sunday afternoon, before wrapping up pre-Ohio Valley Conference tournament play with a 9:00am, dual match against Belmont, Monday, at The Clarksville Country Club.
