APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team will be road warriors this weekend, traveling for a 6:00pm, Friday, match at Chattanooga before journeying to Evansville for a 7:00pm, Saturday tilt.
The Lady Govs should be well-rested after having been given off last weekend. Austin Peay was swept at Samford to open the spring dual season, but head coach Ross Brown is confident the Lady Govs will get back on course.“It’s a long season,” Brown said. “I think it was a good thing to have some time off. It gave us some time to evaluate, see what we need to improve on and start taking those steps.
“We definitely have to improve our consistency. We also need to keep a positive added and project a good competitive image no matter what happens.”
Austin Peay faced Evansville last season, coming out on the wrong end of a 4-3 score. Sophomore Ornella Di Salvo (6-3, 5-7, 7-5) and junior Andra Cornea (6-2, 6-2) picked up singles victories over the Purple Aces. The Lady Govs defeated Chattanooga, 4-3, in 2010.
Chattanooga is 4-0 on the young season, with a sweep of Ohio Valley Conference foe Belmont, January 26th. The Lady Mocs have swept their last three opponents – and lost just one match to Kennesaw State in the season-opener.
Evansville is 1-3 this season, with the lone victory coming against Lipscomb, January 26th. Sophomore Natasha James is 3-1 (2-1 in No. 1 singles) and reigning Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week Marketa Trousilova is 4-0.
