APSU Sports: Austin Peay Volleyball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head volleyball coach Taylor Mott announced Thursday the hiring of Ariel Apolinario as an assistant coach. He will join the program in August.
Apolinario comes to Austin Peay after two years as an assistant coach at Union University. While there he assisted with recruiting and planned and implemented preseason training programs. In Apolinario’s first season Union won the TranSouth Conference with a 13-1 league mark while posting a 24-9 overall record.
“Ariel is a young up and coming coach in the profession,” said Mott. “I believe his energy and drive will be helpful to our team this season. Despite his limited time in the profession he has shown an appetite for obtaining experiences at many levels and comes to us highly regarded. I look forward to working with him and I believe our team will benefit from his presence.”It was his first collegiate coaching position after a successful playing career that included stops at Newman (Kansas) University and King (Tennessee) College. He was an all-conference selection at both programs.
A native of Matanzas, Cuba, Apolinario has gained a wealth of coaching knowledge during his career, including several stints as a club volleyball coach. Most recently, he was a coach in the Memphis Junior Volleyball Association. In addition, Apolinario was a head coach in the Northeast Tennessee Volleyball Club system for three season. He taught volleyball skills during summer team camps throughout Florida, Tennessee and Texas.
