The Lady Govs (6-8) were able to turn Oklahoma away early on, as the Sooners threaten to score in the bottom of the first, loading the bases, but Austin Peay’s sophomore starter Lauren de Castro (4-1) got Lauren Chamberlain to ground out the third to end the threat.

Oklahoma (15-3) would flex its muscle in the second inning, scoring three times, including the first two coming on a two-run homer to left-center field by Javen Henson – her first of the season. The other run came in on a two-out single by Brittany Williams.

Lauren de CastroThe Sooners would make it 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning on Oklahoma’s second home run of the game, a solo shot to left-center by Lauren Chamberlain – her fifth of the season.

That would be all for de Castro, who left after her shortest start of the season, that being two-plus innings of work, while giving up four runs on five hits and walking three.

Junior Morgan Brewer would come in and after a walk to the first batter she faced, then retire the next three Sooners to get out of the inning.

Morgan BrewerOklahoma would salt the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring four times against Brewer, starting by collecting three straight hits to open the inning – including back-to-back doubles by Keilani Ricketts and Williams.

Brewer was also uncharacteristically called for three illegal pitches in the inning by the Big 12 umpiring crew.

Austin Peay would record its one hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning, with senior — and Oklahoma native — Amy Mills ripping a double down the left-field line.

Amy MillsOklahoma would finish with eight hits and drawing five walks from Lady Govs pitchers. They only struck out once.

Freshman Lauren Burroughs and de Castro would be the only other Lady Govs to reach base in the game, both on Sooner errors.

Kristen Allen (1-0) would get the complete-game victory for Oklahoma, giving up the one hit, while striking out seven and walking none.

Austin Peay is off until this Saturday and Sunday when it opens up Ohio Valley Conference play by hosting Tennessee Tech for a three-game series at Cheryl Holt Field.
