APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team fell 7-0 to ITA-ranked No. 71 Georgia State, Sunday afternoon at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
The trip was a return visit after the Panthers came to Clarksville, last season, for a 5-2 win. In that match, the Govs won the doubles point and No. 2 singles match. This year, the Govs were not as fortunate.
In doubles, the Govs used some variation and it almost paid off. Their lone doubles win came from Jasmin Ademovic and John Storie. The newly formed doubles combination picked up the win in a tiebreaker. Meanwhile, a pair of freshmen – Iago Seffrin and Aleksas Tverijonas – dropped the No. 3 doubles match, 8-5.The singles scores were not indicative of how the young Govs performed against the nationally-ranked Panthers. In fact, two matches went three sets while Tverijonas lost a first-set tiebreaker at No. 5. Ademovic dropped down to play No. 2 singles, where he won the second set and Seffrin also won his second set at No. 5 singles.
Austin Peay returns to action, Saturday, when it hosts Lipscomb at the Governors Tennis Center.
