Harper sparks Team Black to World Series victory

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Junior Reed Harper went 4-for-4 with two RBI and scored the eventual game winning run in Team Black’s 8-4 victory in Game 2 of Austin Peay State University’s Red-Black World Series, Saturday night, at Raymond C. Hand Park. Team Black wins the World Series, 2-0, with a game remaining, Sunday.

Harper’s four-hit outing led Team Black’s 15-hit barrage. His RBI double in the third tied the game, 3-3, and he scored in the fifth after an infield error to give Team Black a 5-3 advantage they would hold. Senior Jon Clinard, senior Michael Blanchard and freshman Taylor Patterson each had two hits.

Team Red scored all four of its runs on three home runs. They broke out with three runs in the first – two on sophomore Jordan Hankin’s blast to right center and another on senior Tyler Childress’ solo blast to left – and added a fourth run on sophomore P.J. Torres’ solo shot in the sixth.

Team Black starter Casey Delgado settled down after the three-run first inning not allowing a run over the next three-plus innings. He notched the win with three runs on three hits over 4.2 innings while striking out four. Reliever Mark Allen Bounds threw 2.1 innings allowing only the solo home run to Torres.

Team Red starter Ryan Quick surrendered three runs over four innings but struck out seven of the 21 batters he faced. Reliever Chuck Edlin allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits over two innings and was tagged for the loss.

The Red-Black World Series concludes with a 1:15pm, Sunday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.
