EDGE! October Classes

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – The EDGE! (Experience, Develop, Grow, Excel) offers out-of-school opportunities for 12-18 year old youth to experience, develop, grow and excel by participating in “cutting edge” art, fitness, life skills and adventure activities.

Learn how to cook traditional German foods with Oktoberfest Cooking on Wednesdays, October 3rd, 17th, and 24th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at Cole Park Commons. There are 12 spaces available for this class. All good cooks must develop instrumental skills in kitchen safety and health, so be prepared to learn some life skills while having fun and trying some delicious new foods! Transportation provided by parents. There will not be a class on October 10th.

Learn video technology skills to work as a team and create your very own Scary Movie on Tuesdays, October 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th from 3:30pm until 5:00pm at Taylor Youth Center. There are 6 spaces available for this class.

Mad scientists, don your lab coats and join your friends at EDGE! and experiment with Gak, learn how to make invisible ink, develop bubbling potions, and even turn bones into rubber during Edge’s Weird Science class.  There are 10 spaces available in this class that will meet on Tuesdays, October 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th from 3:30pm to 5:00pm at Taylor Youth Center.

Strike N’ Spare Bowling will meet on Wednesday, October 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at Hooper Bowling Center.  Enjoy some pizza and drinks while you develop your bowling style and better your score each week. Youth may join this course at any time during the month. Meet us at Hooper Bowling Center, or let us know, and we can drive you from Taylor Youth Center. Remember to bring a pair of socks! There are 30 spaces available for this class.

Learn the art of Face Painting just in time for your fall events. There are 10 spaces available for this class which will meet on Thursdays, October 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at Taylor Youth Center. Come learn how to make bruises and abrasions, do a wide variety of full face paint, special effects and stage makeup! At the last class we will do face paint for guests, and then have the opportunity to be photographed by the photography club on site that afternoon.

Students, if you are interested in photography or just enjoy being in front of the camera, Amazing Fall Photos will be a great event! Meet the TYC photography club on October 27th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Taylor Youth Center for an opportunity to take some photos, or model. Costumes and fall themed set will be provided. You may bring your own costumes and props for extra fun. Face painting will be on-site and students may also choose to have their make-up done for their photo shoot. There are 10 spaces available for this class.

Gain experience with a real horse when learning skills in horsemanship in EDGE! Horsin’ Around. Lessons in grooming and anatomy, tack and its use, how to lead a horse and riding will be presented to students. All participants must wear long pants and boots or closed shoes with some type of short heel. The bus leaves Taylor Youth Center for the riding stables at 4:00 p.m. Horsin’ Around will meet on Fridays, October 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. There are 10 spaces available for this class.

EDGE!  Theater Workshop will take place on the following dates and times:  October 9th and 16th from 1:00pm-3:00pm, October 17th and 24th from 6:00pm-8:00pm, and October 19th and 26th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Additional dates and times may be added prior to event.  Class meets at D.W. Rec Center. This is a special program that will prepare a select group of EDGE! youth to participate as the actors and set builders in the Haunted House that will be held on October 29th at D.W. Rec. students will work with volunteers to design, decorate, script, and staff a working haunted house.

Acting staff will be working on costumes and acting techniques, honing skills to interact with guests, and practicing their dramatic roles. Set staff will be working to design and gather props, build scenery, set up lighting and special effects for the production called, “Zombie Apocalypse Invades Fort Campbell.” The event will be October 29th, at Taylor Youth Center from 7:00pm-10:00pm and is recommended for “thrill seekers.” Enrolled students must be able to participate in the production on October 29th. There are 20 spaces available for this activity.

Become a certified scuba diver! Students must be able to pass a swim test and be able to tread water in order to participate in EDGE! SCUBA.  This is a special adventure class that combines class work with water diving lessons. Students are required to bring their own mask, fins, snorkel and booties or they may purchase them from the scuba center. Class will meet on Friday, October 7th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm; Saturday, October 8th from 1:30pm to 10:00pm; Sunday, October 9th from 1:30pm to 10:00pm.  Following this course, students will be required to do an open water dive off post to receive their full certification.

Parents may opt to participate with students, at their own expense. Call EDGE! for more details!  There are 15 spaces available for this activity.

Adventurers Wanted: looking for thrill seekers to spend an evening with EDGE! on a narrated tour of amazing historical sites in the Fort Campbell area!  Participants will learn the myths and legends that surround places like the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park, Historic sites in Adams, The Smith-Trahern Mansion, and stories surrounding the Fort Donelson National Battlefield. Please bring your camera to record your adventures and your own spending money for a fast food dinner stop along the way.  EDGE! Myths and Legends Tour will take place on Friday, October 28th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
